Taj Dhillon Bio
Many artists struggle to establish their musical identity, laboriously trying on different musical styles like a piece of clothing, looking to find what fits. There are other artists that emerge fully formed, in full command of their craft, their identity and their music. Taj fits firmly in the latter category.
Taj is a Punjabi Canadian, who grew up in the pind (Town) of Mullinawal, near Gurdaspur in Punjab. He began by singing at family gatherings and local Gurudwaras (Temples) as a kid.
Taj started by writing songs in his head, and soon took his interest in music to another level. Taj then learned how to play Harmonium and now writes and sings his own music. Taj soon became obsessed with music, and discovered that he loved the “wide-openness” he was experiencing in his life through music. Taj started recording his song ideas on his cell phone and then onto a laptop. He would then perform the songs he was writing for his friends and Family.
People around Taj began to get genuinely excited about his songs and when his family heard the songs, they encouraged him to seek professional training.
Taj’s very first song was “muchh”, which he wrote and performed himself. In 2014 “muchh” released and was broadcast on all PTC and Alpha Channels.
In June 2014, Taj competed in the RED FM IDOL Talent Contest in Calgary and by the grace of god and the approval of the audience, he won 1st place at the contest. RED FM has since supported Taj and helped him launch his singing career.
Taj’s new album to be released soon is being supported by RED FM Calgary as well. This upcoming album, is a captivating and moving debut that heralds the arrival of a gift. The music feels familiar in the best possible way, while striking out in its own territory.
Taj has since opened up for Kanwar Grewal at the Genesis Centre in Calgary and has traveled to the Vancouver area with RED FM to perform live at the Bell Performing Arts Centre in Surrey.
After getting his “big break” from RED FM, Taj opened his own recording space called “Arth Studio calgary”. Taj intends to help and encourage all new upcoming local singers by working with them in his studio. If he’s not with his family after working during the day, you will now most certainly find Taj busily working in his studio.
